first report of pestalotia disseminata, the causal agent of feijoa fruit rot in iran

feijoa as a fruit crop and ornamental tree is cultivated in the subtropics and warm temperate areas of the world including brazil, united states, new zealand and japan. a new disease with brown rot symptom on fruit occurred in feijoa orchards of northern iran in which it has become popular as a fruit crop. the objective of the present study was isolation and identification of the causal pathogen of feijoa fruit rot in iran. a fungus was isolated from the symptomatic pieces of fruit cultured on potato dextrose agar medium and identified as pestalotia disseminata based on morphological characteristics. pathogenicity of p. disseminate on fruits was proved with injection and spraying of the conidial suspensions methods. p. disseminate was reisolated from artificially infected fruits. this is the first report of p. disseminata which cause brown rot on feijoa fruits.
